I am a retired mechanical engineer and have built a 400 sq ft shop doing primarily wood working. The nature of my wood working changed significantly following the 2013 flood in northern Colorado. The Little Thompson River deposited about 80 trees in my flooded backyard. The trees are mostly Ponderosa pine with some cottonwood and fir. I bought a bandsaw mill and have been cutting and drying lumber ever since. Some of the lumber I have sold locally and I have been building furniture and other things in my expanded workshop. The mill operation and woodworking has been a natural application of my engineering problem solving skills and has sent my retirement in directions I had never anticipated.
