Furniture maker and woodworking instructor Mario Rodriguez walks through the process of building a simple frame-and-panel door using only a tablesaw and bandsaw. Compared to traditional doors assembled with hand-cut mortise-and-tenon joints or cope-and-stick router bits, this method is fast, accurate, yet still durable enough for most cabinet doors. The door consists of a 1/4 in. wide by 3/4-in. deep plow, milled in the frame, to accommodate a 3/4-in. long stub tenon, and the floating panel.
In a follow-up video, “Dress Up a Frame-and-Panel Door,” Rodriguez demonstrates how to add a decorative bead-and-quark molding to the door for a more traditional look.
