I’m working on a large (30″ wide x 8′ high x 12″ deep) arts and crafts cabinet for a client and had a question about general best practice for using shopsawn veneers: when only one side shows – for example, the back of this cabinet, what’s the best way to balance the solid (1/8″ or less) show veneers when the back won’t be seen? It seems like a waste to use shopsawn veneers on the back… With a shopsawn veneer, does the veneer on the opposite side of the plywood core (non-show side) need to be the same thickness, or would a brown backer veneer be enough? It’s all Quartersawn White Oak with solid face frames, shelves, and doors, and rift oak plywood sides, top and bottom.  Thank you!
