Tool Review: Featherboard by Bow Products
Tim Rousseau takes a look at this unique featherboard designed to help resaw at the bandsaw
I resaw wide stock at my bandsaw, where it’s super helpful to have a featherboard holding the stock against a tall fence. Not only are the results more consistent, but it’s also much safer, especially as the stock gets thinner, such as when you make your own veneer.
So a while back I came up with a slick, adjustable shopmade jig for resawing. When I showed it to students (usually after they had resawn for a few minutes so they could appreciate it), they were pretty impressed. I loved that jig. But since trying out Bow Products’ GuidePro, I know my jig’s time is up.
I brought the GuidePro into the school while we were doing a lot of resawing for case pieces. Its performance was outstanding, as it both locks down securely and keeps boards tight to the fence. The featherboard’s base locks into the miter slot in the bandsaw table via a cam. The guide itself is movable, and is quick to set and release thanks to a toggle in the handle. It has a single robust feather that comes in a standard height of 6 in., and there’s an optional 4-in. extension ($20).
