Shaker Candle Stand: Introduction
In this introductory overview, watch contributing editor Christian Becksvoort build the stand from start to finish.
He’s built dozens of round Shaker stands over four decades, so there is no one more qualified than Christian Becksvoort to demonstrate making this classic.
In this seven-part video series, you’ll learn how to:
- Turn the wine-bottle post
- Shape the legs, softening the edges with a lathe-mounted sanding drum
- Hand-cut dovetails to attach the legs to the post
- Add a beautiful hand-rubbed finish with oil and varnish
- And lot’s more!
Watch contributing editor Christian Becksvoort build a Shaker candle stand, start to finish in this 4-minute edit.

I'm so pleased to see this video series by Chris! Thank you for making it.
Beautifully done edited version, thanks to all.
Great video. How about using a sanding belt dresser and a riving knife☺️
Beautiful dovetail housing fit. Way above my ability.
I only see the intro and parts 1 and 2. Where are the remaining videos? I've gotta see how it ends! :-)
I love Chris' work, but boy, these fingers just two centimeters away from the blade of the table saw...
On our video workshops we release one episode per week.
When will we see episode 3?
Randy
Episodes are released on Thursdays.
Wow, I have a new woodworking Idol! This is informative and exciting! I can not wait for the rest of the series. I hope you keep me updated on when they will be ready to watch. I am planning on doing one as soon as possible. I may just guess at what is next. Are the plans available or will we have to fake it?
Found the PDF, THANKS!!
It's a Sawstop.
Anxiously waiting for next episode.
Mr. Becksvoort’s work is impeccable as always, a pleasure to watch him at work, however it seems to me I made this stand quite a few years ago from an article in your magazine, how about something new?
