Webinar: Evolution of a Chair with Brian Boggs
Replay Join Brian Boggs for a fascinating discussion on his evolving chair designs.
Brian Boggs, one of the preeminent chairmakers in the United States, shares the story of his development in this webinar. The story starts with a log on the side of the road in Berea, Kentucky, and a young guy so eager to build a chair and so strapped for cash that he sharpened a screwdriver to cut the slat mortises. In a video, Brian gives a fascinating account of the evolution of the design of his iconic “Berea” ladderback chairs. And he follows that by describing the innovations he’s packed into his latest chair, called “Cio,” with back slats that fit you like a baseball glove and a light, strong, comfortable seat molded from veneer and sheets of linen, a green alternative to carbon fiber. After the video Brian will answer questions from the audience.

Just watched the video the day after. I was really impressed with Brian's ability to think about the material characteristics in ways differing from the traditional, so as to improve the woodworking processes. He explained them very clearly, and he was great at understanding the questions and answering them directly and clearly. I would suggest that the moderator not interrupt when he is answering a question. Let him finish, then go on to the follow-up question that occurs.
You guys are getting very professional with your stage presence. Keep it up.
Great Presentation! Brian must be made of wood, he feels all of the characteristics and is so understanding of how wood works!
Tell Ben to get a hair cut.
Great Webinar. So much to take in there.
Thanks
